Education with Passion and Purpose
Personalized learning for your unique math journey, with the teacher who understands you!
Math can be a tool for building self-esteem and opening doors to opportunity.
I am committed to building bridges between teachers, students, parents and educational institutions, and to promoting a new approach to education that is inclusive, personalized and engaging. I believe that by working together, we can create a bright future for everyone.
When a student finally understands a math concept they used to struggle with, I feel proud and happy knowing that I played a small part in their journey.
Hi, I'm Laura, and I believe in the power of education to change lives.
My journey as a math teacher has been one of self-discovery, growth and transformation.
Teaching math is much more than a job for me; it is a passion that began when I was just a girl in Spain. I loved helping my friends, as well as younger students, understand math concepts and then seeing the joy on their faces when everything clicked. That was when I realized I had a talent for teaching, and I knew I wanted to make math teaching my career.
With years of experience teaching at several universities and schools while I lived in Chile, I honed my skills as a guiding math teacher. However, it was not until I moved to Canada and began working with students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds that I fully understood the need for a change of approach in education. I saw firsthand how the traditional one-size-fits-all system was failing many students. That's when I knew I had to do something about it.
As a complement to my 1-on-1 classes, I created "DESDE TUS ZAPATOS", a podcast for teachers, mothers and fathers, where I share my experiences and discuss the need for a change of perspective. I also founded "Civita Laurea", an educational platform that, once launched, will use artificial intelligence tools to personalize students' learning paths and allow teachers to focus on developing their own unique teaching styles and personal brands.
Teaching math is not just about helping students understand numbers and formulas; it is about empowering them to reach their full potential and bring their dreams to life.
Say goodbye to one-size-fits-all math education and say hello to personalized learning with me today!

STEMentorAs
STEMentorAs is a virtual space, both in video on YouTube and in podcast format, where I invite women from the STEM and STEAM fields to discuss relevant topics in education in these areas, break myths and explore teaching practices in depth, always drawing on reliable sources combined with their own experiences, in order to encourage more girls and young women to take an interest in science.
Our goal is to ensure that the decision to pursue a STEAM career is free of fears and preconceived misconceptions about the opportunities in this field.
STEMentorAs, leading the way to a more inclusive STEAM future. Everyone can learn what they love, regardless of their gender, sex, ethnicity or age.
Frequently asked questions
General
Every student is different, so the strategies in each session are adapted to each student and subject. In the first session I focus on reviewing the course syllabus, class notes, exercises, past exams, etc., to understand what is expected of the student in their course in order to reach its goals, how they feel, and their level of prior knowledge.
With this information, I propose a plan based on the student's initial goals, the time they will spend studying in and outside of class, and the time needed for our sessions.
During the following sessions, I adapt the plan according to each student's progress, their strengths and the skills they are developing.
Not always. I only give homework if the assignments from their courses are not enough to cover the skills and concepts they need to learn, or if I consider it appropriate for the student to do extra work for a specific reason. More work is not always synonymous with better learning. Sometimes students need repetition, but other times they need a few exercises that combine several chained skills, and sometimes they just need to unlock a misunderstood concept, and with that they move forward on their own without the need for extra work.
I have my own materials for some calculus, algebra, linear algebra and statistics courses, but in general I work with freely available materials on the internet, make up exercises on the fly in class, or rely on books. I can create or look for additional content when necessary.
In most cases, the materials students bring from their courses are already good enough; they just need to understand them to make the most of them.
Ages 11 and up. Although I have tutored students under 11, I have found that for younger students it is better for the after-school support to be with an in-person tutor rather than a virtual one.
Math from 6th grade of primary school through the end of high school (bachillerato).
At university level: single-variable and multivariable calculus, as well as algebra, linear algebra, analytic geometry (conic sections and the part of the subject that overlaps with linear algebra), and probability and statistics (descriptive statistics, probability and inference).
I do not teach the more advanced, applied or specialized versions of these subjects, nor programming classes.
I have worked with students with ADHD and other individual learning needs. What I know I have learned from my experience over the years. If the student already has a diagnosis of what support they need in their learning, I invite you to tell me about it so that I can determine whether I can help them or whether we should look for a professional with a different profile who can help them much better.
